FAQs

What is the best way to get my foam-related questions answered?

We want to ensure you’re making an informed decision, and since we can talk faster than we can type, either call us at (604) 324-2927 or come in so we can show you samples. We love talking foam and are happy to spend the time with you! If you prefer to email us, we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Why should I buy my foam from discount foam?

Price! Service! Quality!

We are family owned and operated since 1981. You don’t last this long unless you’re doing things the right way. Check out our Yelp reviews and see why others think so too!

Where is your foam made?

  • 90-95% of the foam we sell is not only made but also manufactured in Western Canada.

  • In order to be produced organically, latex foam needs to be manufactured where the rubber trees are (Global Organic Latex Standards).

  • Closed-cell foams are not normally produced in Canada. Please ask about the specific type and we can get you the information.

Do you sell direct to the general public?

Absolutely!

What types of businesses do you supply foam to?

We supply all sorts of companies with the foam they need. Upholsterers, decorators, home staging companies, film, TV, theatres, daycares, shelters, hostels, hotels, motels, bed & breakfasts, concrete companies, school boards, physiotherapists, chiropractors, office buildings, recording studios, gymnasiums, racket clubs, yacht clubs, ski clubs, mountains, B.C. Place, boat makers, RV/van conversionists, car campers, top mount campers, restaurants, cafes, bistros, sushi joints, diners, and cafes, to name a few. :)

How long will it take to get my foam?

We keep a vast supply of foam in stock for immediate availability. We can also custom order and have things in a few days if you have unique needs. It’s usually less expensive to order custom pieces, as there’s less waste when we don’t cut them out of stock.

How do I make my couch cushions firmer or more comfortable?

Changing the foam inside your couch cushions can add many more years to its life. If the cushions are removable and have a zipper on them, this is easy for us to do. Very High Density (good quality) foam is available in many different firmness.

Do you cut and sell foam for boat cushions? What about campers?

Yes! We cut to size and shape. We have the experience and ability to do this accurately and efficiently. We have tons of foam in stock if you need same day service. Call with dimensions for a quote or bring your cushions in for us to measure.

Do you make covers?

  • We make covers in our shop for foam mattresses of all sizes.

  • We make covers for cushions with fabrics we provide. We can make covers inexpensively in a poly-cotton. We also make covers in vinyl, upholstery fabric, or outdoor grade weather-resistant Recacril.

  • If you have your own fabric you need to use an upholsterer (we supply to them and are not here to compete for their business). We also don’t attach Velcro, buttons, straps, or other fasteners. We don’t do piping or other fancy finishes. If that’s what you want, it’s best to get your cover made by an upholsterer.

Why is a foam mattress better than a spring mattress?

  • Most spring mattresses use foam on top of the springs, since metal isn’t comfortable!

  • A foam mattresses support is much more pin point with cells that are smaller than 1mm or 1/32”. A spring mattresses support system features coils that are 2”-4” in diameter.

  • Springs move up and down only. Foam distributes the pressure in multiple directions.

  • Most spring mattresses are non-flip. This is marketed to you as a benefit, but really, this limits the ways you can distribute the wear. Foam mattresses can be spun and flipped to maximize wear distribution.

  • The pillow top is normally the first thing to wear out on a spring mattress and with it all being contained in a non-removable cover, this means it’s time for a new mattress even if the support system still has years of life left. We sell foam mattresses in a cover with a zipper around three sides. This allows you to rotate and replace layers as needed.

How much does a foam mattress cost?

The cost of a foam mattress will vary depending on size, thickness, and quality. Please come by or call and we can help you figure out which option would be ideal for you by explaining options and relevant pricing.

What do you think about layering mattresses?

  • YOU DO NOT WANT TO HAVE LAYERS LAMINATED TOGETHER. You want to be able to flip the mattress to even out the wear. If the layers are glued together you can only use it one way up and the topper will wear out with the rest of the mattress still having loads of life left to it.

  • Please keep in mind that if a 6 in. (15 cm.) thickness lasts 10 + years, a 2 in (5 cm.) would only last 1/3 the amount of time. There are some mattresses that have a 1/2 in (1.25 cm.) layer of latex around the middle of the mattress (known as a "belly band"). If the 6 in latex lasts 10 years spun and flipped every 6 months then the 1/2 in. is going to last 1/12 of that time, approximately 10 months.

  • Foam will grip to foam and layers can easily be rotated or replaced if they are in a cover which has a zipper on three sides. You can create your own combination to suit you personally. We have samples in the shop of different layers that you may want to combine. Come on in and try out options.

Do you have guest beds that are easy to store away?

If you live in Saskatchewan, you may have a house with multiple guest bedrooms (and everyone is so friendly you could be offered a place to stay by the person in front of you in the Tim Hortons lineup). In Vancouver, you may be in a 500 sq ft apartment and still have everyone wanting to stay with you. Fold-a-Beds provide a perfect solution. We also have other solutions for the space challenged from extremely inexpensive to extremely comfortable (bear in mind guests may stay longer).

How can I fix my uncomfortable /too hard/too low/just not right mattress?

  • Foam mattress toppers can be used to solve problems like these. If your mattress is ok or you don’t want to replace it yet, a foam mattress topper can make the difference. We have different types, come on in and try out samples to figure out what is right for you. We have regular foam toppers (most popular, and most options) as well as latex and Canadian-made memory foam. Adding a foam topper can add that pillow top-like finish that your mattress is lacking and your body desires.

  • Memory foam gets all the advertising but is not the best for everybody or every situation. Foam contours to the shape of your body to help keep you properly aligned and more equally distribute pressure. It can make a good mattress great! If your bed is too firm, memory foam is not the best solution. It is too soft and your shoulders and hips will sink through it back into the too-firm mattress.

  • Latex provides a unique feel that is unlike any other type of foam. The latex we sell is organic and meets the Global Organic Latex Standard. It is a wonderful product, but more expensive than most other options.

Is there a downside to buying a foam mattress that comes compressed in a box?

Yes! When you compress a mattress, it is like someone who weighs more than 300 lb. sleeping on the mattress 24 hours a day until it is released. This will cut the product’s lifespan dramatically.
